Aug 18 Pitmegea River, Cape Sabine, Northern Alaska
Cape Thompson where another large bird rookery was observed. A group of three caribou was seen shortly east of the cape. We circled this cape and started flying back were between this point and Cape Sabine two groups of caribou were seen inland numbering 10 and 25 animals. Also seen was one caribou by itself at another location. Near the Pitmegea a group of about 25 caribou was seen. We barely made it back to Pt Lay with one wing tank empty and the other with the middle bonning on empty. We refueled at Pt Lay with 35 gallons of gas took off flew past Day Cape and along the coast over Wainright and landed at Barrow at about 1400. Unpacked the rest of the day.
