Aug 16 Pitmegea River, Pope Sabine, Alaska
at least a dozen were seen. Childs
Could not find anymore wheatears
today either.
Yesterday a willow ptarmigan was
shot as well as several wheatears.
Today the ptarmigan and on wheater
were prepared as study skins.
Took a walk to the mouth of the
Pitmegea river and about 1.5 miles
west along the beach cord then
back across the tundra to camp. No
wheatears were seen and very little
other bird life noticed aside from
longspurs, glaucous gulls, jaegers
(parasitic, Pomarine & longtailed)
and various loons always flying high
overhead.
Lates a short walk was taken up the
Pitmegea River for about a mile along the
beach and a short ways onto the Tundra
and back to camp. Again very few birds
were seen. Weather has been much more
windy today than yesterday.
Aug 17 Weather still quite windy. Childs and
I took a walk about 1.5 miles SW
over the tundra looking for various
birds - very little was seen.
