F.M. Brock 1957 Journal Wainwright, Northern Alaska Aug 12 Once again the morning catch of lemmings in traps lines III and IV was very high - 46 being taken in both lines (see transect data) Took a walk about 3/4 of a mile west along the beach looked at some old abandoned buildings and found more artifact walked across the tundra south to the lagoon, walked along the beach there and then back to the village over the tundra that Mr Crawford described as the area where the kids catch all their lemmings. This area does not look and different from our transect area. In my entire walk only 3-4 lemmings were seen. Jaegers are still plentiful - all three kinds - about 25 being seen per day. Took a walk about a mile east along the beach, found a mammoth tooth (could find no other sign of the animal) on the beach. Walked onto the tundra and back to the village. In all saw about four lemmings again. Evening catch of lemmings once again very small.
