M. Brock 1957 Journal Aug 10 Wainwright, Northern Alaska the nights are becoming much more dark now, whether the lemmings are now tending to be more active at night, this difference in the number of lemmings caught was not noticed at Barow (of course, the lemmings were much fewer) Aug 11 Trapezine #II and III checked at 0900 this morning. The total catch for both lines was 50 (see transect data) Have been trying to collect I bird I can't identify - I believe it's either a snowbunting or a godwit. It has a very long bill, is larger than a red-backed sandpiper and has a definite white rump patch. I believe it's one of the above birds in a molting stage. I have seen four of them now. Took a walk about two miles east along the beach then walked up into the tundra and back to the village by way of the tundra. During this whole walk four lemmings were seen. Evening check of the traplines resulted very few lemmings caught.
