M. Black 1957 Journal Wainwright, Northern Alaska Aug 10 During the last three days I have had an extremely bad cold which has made tasks difficult. At five in the afternoon checking I laid II and retrieved them so that I could get III and IV placed out. Very few lemmings were caught in traplines I and II. A lemming was seen running less than a foot away from stake D.O of transect I. In all four lemmings were seen scurrying about as I picked up the two lines and set the other two out. I am sure that the catches in line II and III are going to be very large due to the fact that nearly every trap placed out was near a fresh lemming runaway or hole. Intermittent rains during the day, a study skin of a semi-palmated sandpiper was preserved today. A big difference in the number of animals caught during the night hours as compared with the lonely daylight hours has been noticed. I wonder whether its possible since
