M. Brock 1957 Journal Wainwright, Northern Alaska Aug 7 Mr Crawford repeated at least five times the fact that every time he tells the village kids he wants lemmings they run off south of the village to collect specimens and that our traplines (Crawford talking) are in the wrong place being roughly N.E. of the village. He seems to believe that the lemmings are more abundant south of the village. I will try and look through the area. Spent the afternoon walking about a mile up and down the beach while waiting for my equipment to come in on the second flight. The plane finally came about 4/600 with traps, food, dissecting tools and sleeping bag. All this equipment was lugged up to the school house. Max Brewer had included a ten pound can of frozen strawberries. When I gave half of these to Mr Crawford he was most delighted. After eating and getting somewhat organized I set out the two traplines - transect I + II - at about 2000.
