July 16 Barrow, Northern Alaska
"prior activity" all old clippings found
loose on the ground not just standing,
old clippings. For all other transects
prior activity was noted by old droppings
and/or cut grass with a shot (1-2cm)
dead area at the clipped end. Today
(July 16) I checked lines I, II and VII
for prior clipping activity and
corrected them accordingly on the
utilization records.
The new litters of lemmings from
July 13 was checked and a little
data recorded (see "Lemming")
July 17 Transect II A + IV B checked once
again in morning and evening; nothing
has yet been taken in line IV A
but another lemming was caught
in line IV B. A few lemmings were
processed and a ground squirrel
skin prepared. Wainright lemmings were
processed.
July 18 Transects IV A + IV B checked in
morning and evening, and still no
lemmings have been caught in transect
IV A; therefore traps were left out.
Lemmings were processed. Heads of
100 traps were smeared to ready traps.
