M Broek 1957 Journal July 2 Barrow, Northern Alaska A restricted area (and buildings) has been placed, either partially on top of, or immediately north of the Votha area. I retreated to await permission. I tried to get to lines IV and X by approaching from south side. It was impossible to cross the narrow strip of water at the south side of the lake... I later tried to approach the lines from the north through the garbage dumps which is just north of the line - this approach proved impossible. Finally concluded that the only way to get at them was from the other side of the gas line. July 3 Processed a few specimens. Went out to check traplines and ran out of gas (cause was incorrect). Therefore first check was at about 4:00. Drove over to Voth area with Tom Swolka since he has been going there regularly to read graphs and knows the restricted areas. Max and I had a talk with some people concerned with the area and found it was possible to continue our study about the area (not too close)
