M. Brock 1957 Journal Athasuk, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska June 11 The afternoon was spent in searching for a locality to do some spot trapping for lemmings. I walked to the village and along the east side of the village (between the village and the Mead). In this area I found only one spot which definitely showed lemming droppings, the area being something like twenty feet in diameter. Aside from this one area, no other spots were found in today wandering. I walked about a half mile beyond (north) of the village and turned from the stream and went west, no sign of recent lemming activity was found here. Upon my return trip I discovered another longspur nest with four eggs in it just south of the village next to the fresh water stream. One of the village children boys met me with a canyings dead porarine jager came to one offering the bird, I gave the bird to Bill. His traps were set out. Traplines I and II were picked up early with the hopes that VII and VIII could be set out. In trapline I no traps had been set off and nothing had been caught. Trapset II had
