M Brock Journal 1957 June 9 At Kusnik, Mead River Coal Mine, Alaska Transect I and II were checked in the morning (See Transect notes) One long tailed jaguar seen seated about 100 yards north of 9.4 in transect I. After checking the traplines with a catch of one & longspurs I went to look for Transects III and IV. Transect III was found but it also is extremely marshy with many of the stakes still under water. Transect IV could not be found after at least an hours searching; there is a wide stripe of snow still on the bluff and it is believed that the line is probably under this snow layer. I will lay out a line parallel to transect III and the snow layer. Close to the area where transect IV is supposed to be and just a little west of it, a pental nest with 8 eggs in it was discovered. Since only four of the eggs were good (the rest having been destroyed) these were collected for an A.B.L. egg collection. Three jaguars were seen on the trip back to camp. On the check of traplines between 8 and 10PM in the evening five jaguars were seen; three of them over the village two over Transect I
