M. Brock 1957 Journal A.R.h. Pt Barrow, Alaska June 8 The first shipment of 200 lemmings from Wainwright came in this morning. Processed five of these before leaving for Mead R., Atkusuk, Mead River, Alaska Setting out Transect I area, very marshy stacks 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 surrounded by water. Three traps placed as near as possible to each post along edge of pond. So far runways are very ill defined and little actual lemmings one is visible. I am now at stacks 6 and have still not seen a good runway or sign of lemming. At 4:45 one long tailed jaeger seen in vicinity of transect I at about 5:15 a jaeger seen around Transect I ± 2 at 6:30 3 jaegers seen near pond at end of Transect I. 6:45 Jaegers north of Transect I. The second transect was finished setting out at about 10:00 P.M. At about 8:45 a long tailed jaeger was seen flying northeast. This second transect line is not as marshy as the first and shows very little sign of any lemmings workings, at the time of year a steam has to be used in order to reach Transect 2
