Remarks. 6/3/39 Birds thought to be this species were seen high up in forest trees in two or 2 places. 18/3/39. Two were heard calling about camp + one shot from tent door. Evidentally live mostly very high in the forest trees. In shocking market + badly shot damaged. Not worth skinning. a Brief description. A dull blue grey, powder down feathers, somewhat smaller than Coracines col. cal. with darker wings + tail, & the under tail covert's a light rufous, with a lighter rufous wash under the wings. The call is loud + arresting, somewhat like a squeaky shrill shriek. DATA J(adl?) 1/2-, repose, black. SKL. almost shot away but believe C.O. SHOT 3.30 P.M.(training) from camp door. WGHT 97.1gm. STM 1/2 seeds or small berry fruits. MOULT W: R, Q. 3,4F, 10F. (shot to player). covs + sec.o L. 3,4F, 11,12,13. TL. R. 1-3 7 covs V.M. L.1, 3-6. BODY all uppers M to VM increasing from head to tail. all unders Q to M. increasing head to tail, X breast O. ABR. W. mixed from N to MM. average C. TL. mixed from N to V.K.M.. Consid body abr. also. SOFT PARTS Iris reddish brown. Bill black. Legs feet Black. 20/3/39. A family party of 3 seen about camp, 1 shot. Jemmy 1/4 + [SH36+1] L.T.V. Another family party of 4 seen feeding very high + another party of 4 feeding in the upper middle layer. 22/3/39. A number seen + heard. All in bad moult. Appears to feed at lower levels than the other shrikes. 24/3/39. Several seen + heard. Is a curious bird. Often seen as low as ten feet, but mostly from 20ft+ upward. 1 shot. 27/3/39. Common + ebbisy. Generally calls after a gun shot or sudden noise ,whistle of the engine + soon.
