Hunters heard calling + one seen. Snap shot missed. Ball like a native blowing a conch shell. 14/3/39. Many heard calling in forests, even during heavy continuous rain. Suffer a great deal of persecution from shooters, white & black & yellow (Japanese) 15/3/39. Not calling much today a few heard. 16/3/39. A number heard calling. Notice this species commences calling more frequently when showers commence. Does not commence calling on dull morning till fully 1 hour after daylight, + not till 2 hours after our calls frequent. None seen. This to a bird heard more frequently than seen. 17/3/39. Very few heard calling during very rainy day. 20/3/39. A few heard calling, species seems very shy alert probably because of persecution by hunters. 22/3/39. One or two heard calling. 23/3/39. One heard calling. 24/3/39. One or two heard calling. Is not as plentiful as it is thought to be & is exceedingly shy in this area because of much hunting. 27/3/39. None were heard calling this finer than usual morning. 28/3/39. None heard calling, one seen in distant flight. 29/3/39. None heard calling though in good territory.
