Remarks SINGLE RED TICK. 14/3/39 see SK. 32A other species Accipiter 27/3/39 One shot which may be this species or its relative. This popbockey? specimen was seen feeding on the ground beside the tram line in true forest. It seemed strangely careless & less alert than usual for vigilax. WAILU 3/5/39 One seen on wing over grassland river flats or scanty scrub boardrid creeks 4/5/39 1 female adult shot in tree at 6AM. fell at too great distance to find nearly a quarter of a mile away. 17/5/39 1 shot (Bad) in native gardens. Usual unobtrusive behaviour- This species may be more common in area than appears on the surface because of its unobtrusive habits; 9/6/39 1 male was seen near the road in foothills near head of Wailu River. 12/6/39 1 female was seen when it flew (after a shot had been fired) from a tree on the River margin near the river mouth. 17/6/39 Extraordinary large concentration of this species seen, fully 15 + probably 25 of both sexes were about where only odd ones have been seen before. None seen hunting; all were playing on ground.
