62. MYZOMELA CARDINALIS CALEDONICUS :- (FORBES) A.M.N.H. has: (14) FOURTEEN. Wants: FOUR (4) Exchange value GOOD Total Permit No. 12 No. for Boumae. 6. Remarks. 6/3/39. Very very common in forests. Good songster, very reminiscent of Australian species. 14/3/39. Calling much in rain. Very common. 15/3/39. Not many seen or heard between shower, seemed subdued, probably busy feeding. One shot but damaged. Feeding on flowers of Areca nut (Betel nut) palm. Noted one female feeding within 3ft of ground is low scrub (second growth on log tracks) on wild tomato bushes. 16/3/39. A few heard & seen, but not very much singing today 17/3/39. Numerous & active & calling much. Feeds & calls in rain. 20/3/39. Numerous heard calling in rain. Honey geckos appear more noisy & active in rain than when it is fine. Lives in upper leaf canopy mostly. Females live at lower levels mostly 5 think. 24/3/39. A great number seen feeding in tree in flower, very high, all were imm. & female plumage. Not seen elsewhere. But may be solitaries in non-breeding 27/3/39. Common, active, & singing much. Feeds mostly fairly higher but can be called lower. 28/3/39. Plentiful & singing much. 30/3/39. Feeding mostly under 20 ft. Very active, especially in sun. WAILU upto 30/5/39. One imm or q seen to date. & one only heard. 14/5/39. 1 male ad. Seen feeding in small patch Karlie scrub near sea.
