measurements 116 24 14 15 (Rand, 13/7/36) 432 - 73 34 (Rand, 15/7/36) " Brass brought in a pig-bandeicot today - a most amazing creature. The cattle dog Blusey caught it in gilly back 200 yards from camp, near a sink hole that seems to lead away into a worm tunnel. Took photos 20-27 of it off filing 115x. A strange heavy beast with a small head, long pointed nose. No tail. The bare pig-like snout may be used in rooting. A striking thing about it, besides its heavy body, is the downward slope of the rear portion of spine and pelvis, giving bear-like hind quarters; the very heavy muscles extending far out on legs; the enormously strengthened fore legs by process of deepening radius until radius and ulna meet for part of length; and forestial claws." "The tongue is thick and fleshy, filling mouth. The beast had a sharp musky odor, and this was apparently entirely due to secretion from a pair of anal glands. Viewed on the inverted skin they appear thus: Dorsal side Glands measured 24x13, nearly round in central cross-section, lying just inside it and apparently free from sphincter muscle. Dull in color and when cut exuded a yellow oily fluid had the sharp musky odor mentioned above characteristic of animal but apparently not in its flesh." Trunk kept in formal.
