31 May Ostringer Rise, Cape Saline, Alaska
The tundra seems very dead this
year. Only an occasional B longspur
breaks the monotony. Very few sand-
pipers are present, mostly Westerns.
No dunlins yet.
June 1 Snow squalls continue. Warm so little
snow remains. Cold and snow affecting trap
success which is low. Jaegers taking some
several hundred snow geese in area. 4
pomarine jaegers seen circling today. Warmed
up and stopped running in p.m. Picked
up traps on Ts-8 at 1900. Got 6 nice
indicating weather was a factor.
June 2 Sunny and warm. Packed and waited
for plane. Many geese on ridge across
the river. Best day since we got here. Last
night there was much county of standpiper.
June 3 Beautiful day. Plane arrived 1130. Returned
to Barrow.
Barrow, Alaska
arrived about 1415. Spent 2 hours on tundra
with Moha. Lennings everywhere. Observed
a Least Weasel kill a lenning.
