Childs 1960 31 May Ostringer Rise, Cape Saline, Alaska The tundra seems very dead this year. Only an occasional B longspur breaks the monotony. Very few sand- pipers are present, mostly Westerns. No dunlins yet. June 1 Snow squalls continue. Warm so little snow remains. Cold and snow affecting trap success which is low. Jaegers taking some several hundred snow geese in area. 4 pomarine jaegers seen circling today. Warmed up and stopped running in p.m. Picked up traps on Ts-8 at 1900. Got 6 nice indicating weather was a factor. June 2 Sunny and warm. Packed and waited for plane. Many geese on ridge across the river. Best day since we got here. Last night there was much county of standpiper. June 3 Beautiful day. Plane arrived 1130. Returned to Barrow. Barrow, Alaska arrived about 1415. Spent 2 hours on tundra with Moha. Lennings everywhere. Observed a Least Weasel kill a lenning.
