Ohites 1959 8. 21 July Meade River Cool Mine, Alaska staying with Ruth Burnell not doing our dishes at Merle's command. Set out traps after supper. After some searching we found T3 but so many stakes were gone that it would have been avoided from the fair. We found 3 stakes in the first 500 feet. Mouse sign is extremely poor, worst I have seen outside of Barrow. So am not spot trapping now. 22 July No catch in transects which confirms my original impression. No predators around although I found a dead Short-eared Owl and a Long-tailed Weasel. 2100 Caught one Decorator in T1. A Peregrine Falcon flew over. 23 July Hot and plenty of mosquitoes. Flusheda Short-eared Owl near landing strip. Little bird activity noted. Scouted area for microtine sign. Saw very little. 24 July Rain. Picked my traps after supper with Burnells & Solomon. 25 July Returned to Barrow. 30 July Patwagea River, Cape Saline, Alaska Left Barrow for Patwagea about 1500. Stopped at Pt. Lay with supplies for Schalk. Tide way out making extensive mud flats there. No caribou seen on trip. Weather warm but windy at Patwagea. John & I went out T1 & T3 after supper. 31 July Ran trap lines. Weather still good: We
