1959
28 June - Petunzea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska
Very warm today. Flies bad. Pomarine jaegers
have moved out. Caribou gone.
29 June - Warm with south wind today. Not much activity
on tundra.
30 June - First rain June 21. I started in 8 p.m.,
and continued through trapping time.
It is a joy to sit and watch the rain.
Dismally in a.m. flew down tent. We
fitted an A frame for upright and
are back in business. Went to cabin
and got more long poles in case other
structural plants give way. The
Bim Swallow has started a nest in the cabin.
Two & white wing Scoter, flew over. A
Turnstone was seen on the ridge.
2 July - Maker returned in said p.m. and Toranda
left. Weather still poor. Pomarine jaegers
still continue to pour through many
wrest. We fenced in Parasitic Jaeger nest
across river.
3 July - Rain most of day.
4 July - Weather clearing in a.m. Wind down.
Pulled in traps - 600h! Walked to coast
in p.m.
5 July - Walked to Wolverine pt. with Bill Mohn.
Found breeding Turnstones and Pipits.
Located several long tail jaeger (breeds),
Saw many Rhinoceros owls tussocks.
