Aug 25 Kotzebue, Alaska
There was plenty of sign - dicaty, otter,
A freshly killed Lemmus was found
Partially eaten by raptor. Grind
Spruce were plentiful and Gnarled
one in camp to the amazement of everyone
but me. They reported seeing wolves,
Several tracks with 2 together once.
Also thy saw marmots within 4 miles,
Caribou, several Bears, Killer
Whales, several species of fish. We
saw 2 Whales not Beluga washing up
on beach between Kotzebue and
Thompson. Spent 6.7 hours there and
returned to Kotzebue.
26 Aug Waited 5 hrs for gas from Wien
and departed in rain from Kotzebue.
Flown by the Doctor to Fernald Lake
at three pm to Liberator Lake
and into Barron by support ton,
[illegible] Glacier.
27 Aug Hacked trees and parked my
Lab, a job not done all summer!
Cade arrived about 1900.
