23 Childs 1958 18 July Between Pion, 7 mi SE Cape Sabine, Alaska Pete went out and in a few hours scored 5 squirrels. Set 58 traps before supper and caught one M. ocreatus while setting them. 19 July got 16 more M. ocreatus in trap line. Pete snared 2 more squirrels in a.m. After skiing we both were after squirrels. Got 54 lbs for all of our family. Set out T11 in marsh and T12 in Tussachs in evening. I broke my watch, loading the plane and Pete's stopped so we have no correct time. Sunday 20 July got 8 Mice, 4 clothings, and 2 Sorex in T9 & T10. in marsh. Pete headed for far mountain after Marmots. Skinned and took 10 lathe in the river - water just right. Pete found no sign of Marmots but collected a 37 Blue-billed Duck. He saw a Wolf about 200 ft out of camp after 9 left for trap line! Heard fox at night. 21 July Skinned one morning. Got an eye strain headache from working in dark tent. We were awakened by the heat of tent (like oven), and no wind. Pete shot a Broad-billed and a Duck Hawk upstream. 22 July After campments and skiing 14 miles Pete + I walked downstream to Folembak and collected the 4 fledged young of the Gyrfalcon and the adult 3 Rock Ptarmigan and 2 Short-billed gulls.
