Childs 1958 1 July Pitmegea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska Wind storm from the south this mor- ning after a quiet and sunny night. Licked up 70 trays, got 8 Minnetonka, 19 Longspur ad 1 jay. Encountered Top?. Backed for Trije Island. After supper we walked to the mouth of the river. Made shot 2 Mericans but we could not get them. Saw bear tracks with cub. Flock of Pacific sides flew by! 8 July Backed land waited in rain for plane. 3 July Same- only rain and high overcast. Plane arrived at 1330 and in 2 trips took us to a gravel bar 1/4 mile downstream from the headwath of the river running to the NE at 16 miles inland. 16 mi SE Cape Sabine, Pitmegea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska Camped quickly as it started to rain 4 July Shifted camp to a high gravel bar 1/4 mile downstream. Organized camp and relaped to celebrate the 4th and Alaska's admittance to the Union of 49 states. Rain'd early but cleanly by 2pm- 5 July Found Duck Hawk nest across river, but had no success collecting the adults. Walked upstream 4 miles to spot where I collected the young Duck Hawks last year.
