Chido 1958 20 Jun. On Turea River, Cape Sabine, Alaska the direction of Liza. Saw it briefly aloft ) 800 headed out to sea. Migrating? 21 Jun. Got 4 Merlins, 1 Deersturgeon, and 1 Soot in 100 traps this morning. 10 caribou seen across river and hunted unsuccessfully. After supper hunted another herd without success. Got 5 Merlins (one eaten by jays) in the evening (100 traps). Heavy rain about 200. 22 Jun. Very rainy and clear day. Marle heard a single caribou cross the river by our tent, took 2 shots and missed! Got 3 Merlins, and 4 Soot in 100 traps this morning. Found a newly hatched Dovetbird and collected it. Mosquitoes out in force after rain and warm morning. I got a caribou across river, much to Marle's surprise. 23 Jun. Stayed in camp nursing an migratorytoenail- a shunt to waste a good day in the field. Rain last night. 24 Jun. Walked to mountain across river, around lagoon and back by the river mouth, a 8½ hour trip. It was rather uneventful except for the collection of a White Wagtail(?), a Baird Sandpiper, and shots at Beluga whales (50-100) at 10 ft at the mouth of the river. Saw 3 Soot ducks, Dusky Hawk, Rufin Loon, Red-breasted Merganser
