Childs 1955 Journal #1. Aug 18-20 Point Barrow, Alaska Engaged in autumn activities plus getting ready to close up shop. Completed live plot 4 at 2200 20 August after 2 days of rain. Aug 21 Ducks really flying in tremendous numbers after the last few days of rain. Ice still socked in tight offshore. Selected pellets from Voth area for Boyd. Placed snap traps in upclown to the south. McNab returned from Halfam three at 1645. August 22 Spent the day waiting at the airport for the return trip to Meade River. Snowed most of the day, at least it did after Fearless Feed got on of the sack. Did not get off the ground Aug 23 Went out to the Voth area with Koranda to look at the snow conditions (see below). McNab left at 2000. 2130 rain started that froze upon hitting the ground. at 1630 left for Meade River but got only a short distance south of the monument. Solid clouds to the south. Gave up any attempt to get here this year. Aug 24 Still bad weather. Went out to the beach ridge.
