Calhath 1942 1 1/2 mi. S.E. Willow Creek, 100 feet Norboldt Co., Calif. Jan 6. into pastur land surrounded by Black Oak, Tan oak and Douglas firs. Over th summit we started dropping down the north facing slopes through heavly forested areas of douglas fir. After dark we found an auto camp 1 1/2 miles South East of Willow Creek where we made camp. Jan 7. The area 1 1/2 miles south east of Willow Creek is chiefly a cover of Black Oak and Tan Oak along the lower slopes. Associated species will include Douglas fir, Madrone, Ceanothus, Bigleaf Maple, Willow and Snowberry. The camp here includes a large orchard between the highway and the river. 13 Black Oak Tan Oak Douglas Fir Madrone Camp. Highway 299 Orchard River. Todays collecting was sadly hampered by heavy rain. While hunting under the douglass firs and Black Oaks along the river I shot one Walling Viole # 80 from a group of 15-20 birds. This action and single not while feeding high in the trees led me to belief they were Kinglets. Under this same cover I obtained one hummit Humid # 81.
