S. Fork Mt, 4 mi N. Mad River Rd, #3100, Trinity Co, Calf
Had very poor seed crops this year in this region.
I then walked out on South Fork Mt Ridge from highway 36 to the north and picked up a bobcat kitten of the year in one of my steel sets. The trap was set along the edge of a pine wood and 25 feet out into a open glade from Douglas fir timber. An old tree squirrel carcass was used for bait along with some scent.
In the late afternoon I checked my line of traps from camp to the Mad River and caught one woodrat in the same steel set that I caught one in yesterday under the old junk pile. One redback shrew was caught in a set under a corn of firns in a Douglas fir stand. Two Clethromy were taken under logs, and one Orygurus maniculate was trapped in the manzanite. In a still set for shunk made under the Douglas fir and around a small rock outcrop I caught one Still jay. Evidently the bird catch is forcing these birds to feed on almost anything as it had come into get part of squirrel.
