1973 4 mi. S.E. Ave C. and Sierra Hwy, Lancaster, Los Angeles Co., Calif. May 30 Here. After putting the animals in cages (the 3 D. microps), we collected leaves of Atriplex for use in food studies. While breaking off leaf loder, stems, my glove became very wet, indicating a high water content at this time of year. Doug dug up 3 plants to take back alive. A Calif. St. Fish and Game officer pulled up to inquire as to our activities, but was the friendly sort, not bothering to seriously investigate us, apparently satisfied with my story. I drove home with the animals, arriving at 10:40. After placing the animals in the garage, I weighed them by placing them in plastic bags, weighing using a field scale (0-100 g) then weighing the plastic bag only. Weight of 100 g of A. confetti Folia IVS after air dry/10g = 15g :: H2O content at least 85% by weight. *4 mi. W. Home Their Sprs., San Bernardino Co., Calif.
