1973 \n mi. S.E. due C. and Sierra Hwy, Lancaster, Los Angeles Co., Calig. 16 28 20 20 Mar 29 access road as illustrated: Tel. T co. 54 Rail Road <--- N Sierra Hwy = 100 yd. Five lines were laid out, totaling 104 traps, 48 were non-folding 10" Sherman Live Traps, 56 were the folding variety. We used Wild Bird mix and Oatmeal as bait, sprinkling a few oats in front of The Traps. Few holes were seen, most Traps were set near the box of a herb. we left at 7:00 it being quite dark. Mar 30 I arrived at the locality at 7:00 A.M., Doug and Ron spent the night some 20 mi away at Joshua trees St. Park, and reported it quite calm, Only a very mild breeze blew occasionally, and the sky was very clear. Temperature in the high 40's, by 10:00 I would guess it was up to 68°F. The animals caught were as follows: 3 Dipodony microps, 1 Q. merrioni, 1 Neotoma lepida, 12 peromyscus maniculatus. = 16. About 15% capture, not good but not too bad. Most of the animals, and all the kangaroo rats, were captured in traps near the road within 25 yds. The Atiples were more succulent
