On Route from Berkeley, Califs to Lincoln Co, Nev.
and Dr. Johnson pointed out a Bendire's Thrasher,
on one of them I also saw a Mockingbird,
Pine Jay, and a Zoggerhead Shrike in the
same habitat. It was clear and sunny, and
the wind was hardly blowing at all. We continued
on Rt 25 to the Junction with Rt 93, then drove
Through Caliente, stopping for gas, and drove, now
North, past the junction of 93 and 25 (at Panaca)
about 5 mi, turning west on the Caselfton Road.
We drove about 6.7 mi north-west on this
road and then turned onto a dirt road leading
to "Wheeler Ranch" at the mouth of Water Canyon,
Highland Range.
Highland Range, Lincoln Co., Nev.
at Pine Spring in Water Canyon, at 7400 feet, we
stopped and walked around to survey the panorama.
There was a moderately strong wind in the trees and
the sky was clear, at 9:00 AM. Several
large ponderosa pines were at Pine Spring but
the surrounding slopes were clothed with
Pineon Pine and Sclerophyll shrubs. Route of travel
below. Distance between the springs is about 5 mi.
