at the end of one peripheral tunnel,
I found an accumulation of fresh
aromatic leaf showing, forced
drightly into the Tunnel. Most
of these appeared to be leaves, though
some could have been bracts. This
tunnel was only 4" below the surface.
The sand was damp for 12" down, the
tunnels penetrated below that depth
to dry soil. The burrow system
was very complex. IT was located
in a small mound topped by
one of the few Atriplex plants
around that was coated heavily in
green lichen, suggesting that the
site was chosen because of it's
vegetation.
