Auto, Blair 1976 Journal 3.0 mi. E. Bishop, Inyo Co. California July 14 9:30-10:30 P.M. From White Mountain Res. Sta. (Canyon Valley Laboratory), I observed a curious interplay of 4 vehicles (1 Jeep-Land- Cruiser; 1 Jeep; 1 foreign coupe; 1 lt.-colored Van) that may have represented a reconnoissance for clandestine purposes. The Jeep ascended the White mts. about 100 ft above the valley floor and parked, first dark, then signaling with a headlight flash, then with parking lights on. The Jeep-Land Cruiser appeared descending the hill ca. 5 min later. The white Van waited on the highway below all the while, and the small foreign coupe stopped near the foot of the hills, at the east end of Line St., all departing within 10 min. of one another.- I suspect this episode may involve illegal trade, possibly in drugs. I have observed traffic up this hill on previous occasions, and will keep close watch from now on.
