Big Pine, Inyo Co., California March 22 Drove out to Big Pine via Rt. 50, The Kingsberg Grade, and U.S. 395. 400 mi., 9 hours. Weather, cloudy but clearing over Central Valley, windy in East side of Sierra. Arrived 5:00 p.m., set out grid 4 x 18 + 2 x 14 traps in alleoli sink study site. This area differs from surrounding hard pan in that it has a concentration of sand blown sand. Caught 2 D. merianus, 6 O. murrayi, 4 Perognathus monomylis, 1 Perognathus longimolus, and 1 Batmodontys megalaki. Only 2 O. murrayi and one of Grass died in the trap. That one carried 3 embryos. Set 100 traps off road that continues south across 164 from "Big Ears" - 5 PL Rats, Telestoma. This area is sandy with cactuses and Sarcabates. Nearer the pines, rabbitbrush and sage take over.
