Equipment at the lab -- rather than still
more centrifuges.
June 12
Yesterday was a very hot day,
passing the 100°F mark before
noon. However, by 4:00 PM a cloud
layer passed overhead and cooled things
considerably. On the way to
collect food for my captive K-rate,
my car broke down, refusing to run
at idle. I suspected this was due
to the perennial accelerator pump
problem, but, no, that was all right.
I also looked at the points, which
were dirty, and cleaning them and
the rotor fixed the problem. This
morning I rose at 5:45 AM, and
saw an adult male spoonbill hawk
perched on the telephone pole outside
my lawn with a rodent in his
talons. From the tail configuration
and the size, it would have to have
been a Buteo regalis americanus in this
area -- not unusual, for D. menensis
is probably far most abundant rodent
around. The miniature lates perched
on the same pole.
