Canti, Bla 1974 Journal 2 mi. W. Railroad Pass, Lander Co., Nevada April 12 Even the Perognathus longimembris were quite active, not torpid. Perhaps animals have avoid Torpidity in order to withstand the cold nights common year round - i.e. only become torpid in their summer, not on the spur of the moment for a short period- as in a shrewan live trap. One 45 g juvenile was captured, indicating that breeding has been in progress for some time in this population as well. One large adult was captured but escaped during examination. One ad. ot was released, and one small ad. F, apparently malefious, was released. 3 O. micropt were saved. Five D. aurii were saved, to see if they can utilize Altrplex as a sole food source. Total caught: 7 O. micropt, 6 D. aurii, 2 Microdyopods sp (megacephalis)? 4 Perognatus maniculatus, and 3 Perognathus longimembris, total 22 animals. About 8:00 A.M. the wind came up, very cold again. The breeding season was apparently wised at this Northern site so well. We left for the next site about 9:00 AM. 2 mi. E.
