Curtis, Blair 1974 Journal April 8 6 mi. W. Navajo Bly, Cocopino Co., Arizona. Would try to trap at the Navajo Bridge tonight. We left St. George at 3:15 and arrived at the site at 5:30. It was difficult to find rodent sign, so we drove to the bridge to look there, as Hardy had said in 1947. There was no K-rat sign around the bridge, so we drove back and stopped at a road change just W of Vermillion Cliffs Trading Post. The owner, Buck Rodgers, gave us permission to trap on his land, and offered us culture gate for us. We set traps on the north side of the road, 5-6 mi. W of Navajo Bridge. The ground was erusted red sand, the major plants were Ephydrea sp., and Artriplex canescens. No large burrows were seen. We finished setting traps after dark, and camped at Lee's Ferry, 5 mi. NE Navajo Bridge. April 9. This morning we caught only 11 Perognathus inornatus and 4 Peromyscus maniculatus. This confirms my earlier statement that if no K-rat burrow complexes are seen, none will be captured. We picked up traps and conducted a survey of the area.
