Huntoon Valley, Mineral Co., Nev.
watermelon sized rocks. Every 50
yds we would halt to clear the
road. At length we entered a
tree covered valley, but continued
through this up a mountain slope,
here more rocky than sandy, finally
we descended a wash into the
large, Huntoon Valley.
We drove by an abandoned
cabin to the sand dunes
at the south end of the
valley. Here we started
for holes, finding few;
we returned to the canyons
and made camp. Holes were plentiful
but small. The night was clear but
cold, at freezing. We found a small
gopher snake at dusk. I was not
familiar with the vegetation of the
area, save to say that much of it
consisted of a most disagreeable bush
with many sharp, small thorn hearts.
