conti, Blair 1973 Journal July 26 We drive north as far as possible once entering the lake bed. The sand is blown into dunes, some quite high, about 15'; others lower, and we parked among these. Temperature at 2:00 Pm I did not seem oppressive, and we put up the cats and placed the animal cages in their shade, covering the rows with a bolt of cheesecloth, which we then kept moistened. As you travel away from the dunes near at the edge of the lake, the ground becomes less sandy and encrusted, very salt with prebumeroles. We stopped the major and minor dunes at lakes edge. There was a growth of Ephedra on many dunes, also a dry, thorny plant I was not familiar with. Rabbits burrows were seen at the bases of some of the rushman ten plants. The only larger burrows were seen at the tops of the dunes, amongst the thorny scrub. This is consistent with my experiences of 1970. July 27 The moon came out later, about 7:00pm,
