J Crowley Journal May 21 Pescion Bald State Park Meadow C, Calif. Results of trapline set on preceding night were: 5 Sorex pacificus, 5 Sorex sp. (?), 11 Oecomys monomachus, 3 Neurotrichus gibbsii (total 24/8?) Francis and I prepared 18 of total catch, discarded 2 Peromyscus, 1 shrew mole, ? others. 8 traps were sprung with bait gone but no catch. On preceding night in meadow just past of our camp, near the creek and just to north thumbleberry shrubs, we found a Zapus varius caught and struggling in our second trap. The animal struggled free and escaped before we could capture it. On thoughts of May 21 as we didn't set a trapline once we planned to dig gophers near the ocean on the next day.
