May 17 Passaic Butte State Park, Mendocino Co., California.
At 5:00 A.M our party arose, had breakfast. Then Franco, Viola and Jean accompanied Dr. Johnson to our trapsites, and returned with 12 specimens which we skinned and prepared. McEnroe -
had the ranger, contributed a
Peromyscus maniculatus to our collection.
Dr. Johnson departed with supply truck for the University of Cal[if.] at 3:00 P.M. Franco and Jean set off for the hill to the north to set traps while Viola and I took the road leading east into the ravine.
He collected such species as were enumerated on May 16 account plus Lemmus trimucronatus, Clethrionomys, Umbellulana (see species list).
Also one Amphibious - Triturus sp.
After dinner - at 7:00 P.M. Viola and I set our trap lines, east of camp this time, in same habitat Dr. Johnson had set his traps in.
Weather conditions highly unpredictable: bright sunshine in morning and middle of afternoon with sudden violent showers at irregular and unknown intervals.
