May 22 Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings River, 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif.
May 22, 1942
Set 15 traps near junction of East Forks of Sheep Creek and South Fork of King's River
-10 along drain and 5 on banks of Sheep Creek.
Caught 2 Peromyscus maniculatus. 1 in
trap set at side of Pinus sabina fallen
near trail. Pinus jeffreyi; Abiesline
decurrens and Pinus sabina are true
pines. No grass, few bushes. Pine
needles form blanket on floor of canyon.
Trap set on east side of log, just below
young Sugar Pine growing up near fallen
log. Second mouse caught at base
of Abies Abies decurrens,
1 foot from drain. Trap set on west side
of tree, just at base. Of other traps
set along drain, one had black ant
working on bait, another had gray
spider working on bait. Both Peromyscus
caught were females with 4 abdominal
mammas and no embryos. No. (1000)
(101).
May 27 Zumwalt Meadow, 5000 ft., S. Fork Kings R., Fresno Co., Calif.
(113)/9 with 4 ab. mammas and no emb. Trapped in
willows thicket 15 ft. from Talus slope and open
meadow. Animal trapped under large roots and
branches of willow, lying half in water. Baited 27
Museum Special Mouse traps & 1 rat traps. No other catch.
