June 4 357 Buena Vista Ave, San Francisco City and Co., Calif.
Keely. En route from Modesto we saw Brewer's Blackbird, Mourning Dove,
Sparrow Hawks, a Western Kingbird, English Sparrow, Meadowlarks, a pair of
Mourning Doves flying rapidly over the grain fields, a number of American Egrets
in a glough of the San Joaquin R., a Black Phoebe carrying material to
a nest, another Killdeer, Calif. Junoal,
Redwing Blackbird, Hartley. At one of
the points where the San Joaquin R.
crosses the road, we saw many Cliff
Swallows. Meadowlarks continued to be
abundant, and another Turkey Buzzard was
seen.) Mrs. Grunnell pointed out the view of
Mt. Diablo - 2 peaks - from outside
Tracy. At the Alameda Co., Calif. line,
we saw Ground Squirrel on a fence post
set in a field of Calif. Poppies. At 1:00
P.M. we stopped at Walnut Creek for
lunch. Then took road through Clare-
mont Canyon to Mrs. Grunnell's apt.
After removing the first layer of camp life,
Marie and I returned to San Francisco,
got home at 4:20 P.M. Weather warm
in midday. Cold morning and foggy
at night.
