June 3 Camp Azalea, nr. Gen. Grant Park Rdgs, 6700 ft.,
Fresno Co., Calif.
After dinner Jean and Bob plucked birds
while we all looked on. Weather cold, clear.
June 4 351 Buena Vista Ave., S.F., Calif.
We finished our last camping day with
a bonfire and toasted marshmallows, to
the accompaniment of Jean and her
flute. Jean and her flute were accompan-
ed by E[illegible], Hyla and owl. At 10:30 P.M.
most of the party were storing up energy
for the next day - and one was storing.
The stars were large brilliant sequins
on the clear midnight blue sky. Jean
and I watched shooting stars for a while.
At 4:50 this morning we started to break
camp. We left at 5:30 A.M. for Fresno
and breakfast. The morning (and
night and how) was cold but clear.
When the sun finally broke through
the day warmed rapidly. We (Mrs. Ern-
ell and Marie; Harvey - Bob- Jean in
the truck; and Ida and I) drove
on Highway 180 to Fresno. We saw a
rabbit on the road, Mourning Dove on
a fence post, Meadow Larks on
fences. A Calif. Woodpecker clung to
the side of a fence post. A Shrike dove.
