Crowley 1942 June 1 Journal Cedar Grove S. Forketings C. 4600 ft. Fresno Co., Calif. Young Woodpecker flew to an alder tree and hammered. An enormous Plecoptera fly was the first animal I noted as I drew near the river's edge again; so the trail wound about the mountain. Again I left the bank of the river and climbed straight up this north facing slope of the canyon - south bank of the river. A deer trail was the only obvious part so I took it up to the top. When the loge became too numerous - across the Trail - and the path too precipitous, I acknowledged the superiority of the deer in this field and retraced my footsteps. I had passed by the C.C.C. Buildings which lay on the opposite side of the river. As I drew near the foot of the mountain, passed the C.C.C. building again and passed through the musty grove, I scrambled over rocks searching for the trail. About 20 ft. from the water's edge I stopped to peer about for the path. A crashing in the bushes caused me to look down at an alligator lizard looking up. I whipped out the trusty lizard note and specimen bag, noosed the beast and dropped him in the bag. The animal we
