Crowley 1942 May 25 Cedar Grove, S Fork Trinity., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. Journal A Fox Sparrow was perched on the branch of a Yellow Pine, 60 ft. off the ground. It flew down toward the ground - an east facing slope, covered with Manzanita. A Chickadee called. Sceloporus raced over fallen logs. A Hawk sailed over the trail, about 50 ft. up. I had whitish underparts. After crunch- ing across snow on the trail, I came to a shady, gloomy forest where an Audubon Marblet, pair of Townsend Solitaires, Robins and five deer brightened the landscape. The two Solitaires (?) were in a dense growth of ferns and juniper. The five deer crossed the trail, stopped to stare at me, then pro- ceeded about their business of feeding in the mountain meadow where the trail crosses the west forks of Sheep Creek. A sound like a cowbell - only hollow - announced the presence of a woodpecker up the canyon. A Chipmunk ran up a Fir tree. Sceloporus ran across a log. A Fox Sparrow sang from Azaleas then flew to the ground. Chickadees and Jays called as I re- traced my steps to camp. I took the trail all the way back to the Ranger station and
