Crowley 1942 Journal May 24 Cedar Grove S Fork Kings R. 4600 ft. Fresno Co. Calif. May 24, 1942 M. Redm and I, set 2 traps east of the camp and the ranger's station and across the bridge. The traps were set along the north bank of the river at the bases of pines, Incense Cedars and Manzanita. 1 of the traps was sprung but none had caught any animals. The trap which was sprung was the same one which had been gnawed on the preceding day, May 23. We had left our trapline out with the traps unset. Some animal, perhaps a ground squirrel, had gnawed two of our traps taking the bait off two of them and chewing at the wood. On the way to the trapline, Marie and I heard a Black headed Grosbeak, and saw a Hairy Woodpecker working in the pines near the bridge. Our Robin was sitting on the nest in the pine east of the bridge. Back at camp we found that the total catch was 3 Ceronyceus: 1 caught by Mrs. Grunnell - the one which had gnawed our avocados the previous night, 1 caught by Frances and 1 by Ida.
