Crowley 1942 Journal May 23 Cedar Grove, S. Fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. May 23, 1942 off. He examined the land and saw a sketchy mass of cobwebby and leaf-like material in the fork of the branch. I tagged it and we shall investigate further. As we continued our search for a road going west we saw a hawk about the size of a Sparrow Hawk but with broader wings and tail (shaped like a small Red tail) with a white rump patch. It may have been a Goshawk (?). At last we located a broad highway leading me back to camp - at 4:30 P.M., just in time for dinner. After dinner we set traps (2) east of camp in the same place as May 22 - across the bridge from the ranger station along the river. He returned to camp and fixed our Sceloparous. Marie had 2, I had 7, Frances had 2, and Jean had 2. I looked up the Calaveras Markler's food peaches, Vines and Chickadee. Tomorrow we shall attempt to check out identification. Mrs. Grennell reported that at about 11:45 P.M. a deer crossed through our camp.
