Crowley 1942 Journal S. Fork May 21 Cedar Grove, Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. May 21, 1942 Baik with walnuts Set traps near camp. Mrs. Miller located a Robin's nest with 3 eggs in it, in a small Jeffrey Pine, just east of the bridge over the S. Fork Kings Rive. Dr. Fisher, M Redon, J Ogilvie, Ida de May and I accompanied her to the nest and climbed up to take a look. The nest was about 7-8 feet off the ground, 3 ft. from the main trunk in fork between 2 large branches of the tree. No Robins were near when we looked at the nest. He crossed the bridge going back to camp, when M Redon discovered her pen was gone. She and Mrs Miller returned to the tree while Dr. Fisher and I watched bats flying about overhead. Dr. Fisher took several trues at them with his slingshot but with no direct hits. He returned to camp with the other two and wrote notes till 9:15. Weather: morning cool but clear, afternoon warm (not overcast). Mr. Dirpm told us we had just missed snow and thunder showers by arriving May 20.
