Crowley 1942 Journal May 21 Cedar Grove, S. fork Kings R., 4600 ft., Fresno Co., Calif. May 21, 1942 off down the canyon. The other member of the pair appeared shortly after and dipped on the east, then on the west bank of the stream. It proceeded northward down the creek dipping. After passing it apparently swam after dipping on several occasions. (Though near the bank, the water appeared to be several feet deep). Passing over the dam in flight, the bird dropped down below the dam and again dipped, this time in the frothy, foaming rapids. The water was churning vigorously, yet the bird dove off the bank into the water, disap- eared for several seconds and re- emerged in flight toward the bank. It seemed to have no difficulty in navigating either on the rough current or on the smooth, wet, slippery rocks on the bank. After dipping first on the east, then on the west bank, the bird flew off down the creek. The other bird reappeared, flew behind the falls with something green in its beak. Reappearing, it flew to the mossy west side of the creek and was
