May 18 Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino Co., Calif.
Elevation 50 feet - ¼ mile cast of ocean
on road leading east through canyon.
Individual found in one of 25 traps
set in riparian habitat, 15 yards north
of creek, at margin of grassland just
before entering thimbleberry and elder-
berry thicket, beneath red alders. Spec-
imen was reddish colored on back, about
size of Peromyscus maniculatus but
had longer tail and legs.
May 4 Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino Co., Calif.
½ mile cast of ocean. ½ of specimen
(chind parts) found in trap set in run-off
into stream, below road, in midst of
elderberry thicket. Head part had been
eaten by some voracious creature, so
body was useless.
May 24 Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino Co., Calif.
¼ mile cast of ocean - 15 Zapus of 24 traps set.
May 26 Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino Co., Calif.
200 ft elev., southwest corner of park, just above
bridge, on grassy slope at margin of thimble-
berry thicket, gave Zapus caught in Museum
Special Mower Trap.
May 30. 45 ft elev. just west of Camp 27 live Zapus trapped
in Museum Special, in middle of meadow.
