J. Browley (44) Neotrichas gibbei May 19 Russian Gulch State Park, Mendocino Co., Calif. Elevation 50 feet. ½ mile east of ranger's cabin on road, 25 yards north of creek. ?? found trapped beneath marginal part of thistleberry thicket under red alders. Very damp habitat. Animal was larger than mole size, about midway between small shrew and mole size, with long snout, mole-like fur, large, flattened head like mole. But up- wardly much about on surface moves like a shrew. May 21 ½-¾ mile east of ocean, elevation 50-75 ft. 5 shrewmole trapped (5 traps set - 24 hr. catch). Riparian habitat. May 24 Riparian habitat east of camp - 10°.
